New Yard Art and Crafts

Lady Bug painted on a bowling ball , got the ball at a yard sale.
Caterpillar Painted on Tin Cans by Waylon and I.
Old broken bird bath transformed to planter and bird bath

Found glass bird ,wine glass, bowl  and candle holder at a yard sale all for less than $2.50 !

I got this huge insulator at a yard sale for $5.00, Mom already had the brown bowl but it was broken so I glued it and added the twine..and the flowers she got at Lowes on sale .
Another candle holder (metal) with a metal candy dish , the beads on the bottom of the bowl is maginet holders .

Wind chime Waylon made
for me out of a tin can with
black rocks wrapped with
thin wire.

One of Mom's bird house's that needed repairs, we used tree bark for the roof, another wind chime I made from a metal basket and mini garden tools for my sister Tina.
Mom and I had found a Tin Can wind chime in a Bird's and Bloom book last fall , we were saving our can's all winter to make them (3) ,This is the one I did for myself , we could not find the book to follow the instructions, so I had to do it the way I thought it needed to be done, sat. before we came home I decided to add wooden beads to it to make it sound better .I forgot to take a picture of it .
The glass bird & the wine glass has already come off the bowl and that is because I use a different glue than before, from now on clear silicone !

Mirror's For The Blue Birds

Several times when we went to Mom's we would see a blue bird land on the car mirror's, Mom had said that is the only time she see's them. So Tina decided to come up with a plan , ,she had several small mirrors at home, then went to town and came back with the round ones.
Then while Rexa and I was making the cushions for the swing Tina made these ,One for Mom , with the red, one for herself and one for me, mine is the smallest .

When Tina brought the round ones they came with a part to hang them with, at first she was going to hang it on the tree ,then we decided it would be better if the bird had a place to land to look in the mirror, so Tina took one home with her to show Gary and this is what he came up with , the wood platform !! He burned the wood to make it look like this ,so he made 2 and Mom's is now hanging on the tree right where she can see it from the porch swing.
Mom loves it ,hopefully the bluebird will too.
I may not put mine outside ,I have it laying on a table with a quilt top for now.

Craft Day

I had this board for a long time , I used to do wood burning art , and this is just an extra one that did not have anything on it except around  the edges ,  since Giraffe's are Chloe's favorite animal ...Samantha my DIL saw the giraffes in a book ,cut it out ,glued it to the board and  used pieces of tree bark and limbs ,along with tiny rocks ,also tree bark from a Crepe Myrtle Tree. ( the one curled up ) Chloe loved it .

These are some home made candle holders ,jar is marshmellow cream jar and the tins are from tuna and vienna sausage can's , we use the ting rocks and shells, and also the half marbles on glass with rocks in between , very simple to do. I love the biggest one lit up !
These crafts were done over the summer , I have lots to catch up on.... .hopefully I will be posting more often now.

Kids Crafts - What Fun !!

I had 3 of my Grandchildren with me last Saturday night .So after playing outside , on the computer and eating Pizza I decided to let them make a scrap book .
We used brown paper bags the ice cream comes home in , we cut the bottoms off then took out the seam where it was glued and folded in half length wise -cut, then devided in 3's and cut, fold that in half and punched holes in it with a hole puncher then added Raffia  for the binding to hold it together.Which gave us several pages to work with .
Then I gave them all a bunch of magazine's I no longer wanted to keep , they had a ball cutting out their favorite thing, Chloe left some to draw and color herself .
The giraffe's we saw from the computer it was very bright , her favorite animal .Sarah's is Horses and Waylon loves dogs and tigers
They were pretty tired after this,  we had some ice cream and then they watched some more TV, got up the next morning and went to church with Grandma.

Tatting

I saw a lady at the Quilt Show as a vendor and she was tatting away on some lace she was making, I asked her if it was easy to do , she said once you get used to it, yes. It looks hard to me !
My Mom's mother did tatting work before she passed away while Mom was a child . Mom had some of her lace stored away ,I never knew about it until we started working on the first family heirloom crazy quilt, so we put some of that on it .
I just had to buy some of this lady's tatting work, I brought the 4 butterflies the first day , then I had to go back the next day to pick up my quilts after the show, so I went early and brought the long piece and I was telling her about the crazy quilted bible covers I was making,  so she gave me the one with the green ribbon and then I brought the heart and she gave me the 2 tone pink and ivory piece!
She is a wonderful lady and I hope to see her agian . She gave me her card in case I wanted to order more , She was showing me a crown she made that was about 5 or 6 inches high, it was beautiful, I wish I would have taken a picture of it. If I ever see her agian I will be sure to take more pictures .

Kid's art work on Blue Jean Cloth

My Grand daughter Chloe and her 2 friends were over here playing with the doll house but then got tired of it and acted bored, so I cut out some 8" X 10" blocks of Blue Demin, told them to draw something pretty ,add the embelishments and then give back to me .I sewed them into tote bags.

Craft Day with Children

Right after school was let out for the summer I had all the kids come over and we made some clay food for the girls doll house family .
Boy did they have fun doing this, even 4 & 1/2 yr old Sarah made some, she made the taco's and some hambugers, of course Grandma helped !
I would suggest something to make and they would do it .We made enough to feed an army !
So see if you can find ice cream cones, plate of cookies, some apples, grapes, pizza, peas, string beans and etc.
Anyway they all had fun and maybe another day we will make something else, as all of the kids love to make things and a couple of them are pretty artistic. After we made all this I then put them in the oven on 115 degrees for a few minutes .I did not have to leave them in there long as it was so hot in here  they were already getting hard .
The girls have a blast playing with the doll house and feeding thier little family. They have even pretened they were going on a picnic ! How fun is that!

Jeweled Handbag

I made this jeweled tote bag a couple yrs ago , it is a number of taffada's sewn together like a crazy quilt ,then I added cotton flower cutouts and tulle,I made it so there are 2 small pockets in the front and then added different color trims and beaded the flowers .I have been using the tote bag for my photo albums for when I travel to Mom's ,it even went as far as Pa . with me in 2008.
Maybe I will even use it for church .

Special Garden baby

Many years ago I made my own doll pattern and called them Special Garden Babies ,they are soft sculptured with hand painted eyes and features like freckles & etc .
I had this doll at Mom's for a long time, so she decided to finish it by adding the crocheted hair and made the dress for her .
On Most of the dolls we would give them a name ,and on the backside I would paint something to represent the name,  Like Daisy ,I would paint the flower daisy ,Rose then it would be roses ,since I called them Garden babies I would try to use a name of flower or fruits .
For ,many of them I made a swing to sit them in and then add flowers to the swing to represent the name of the doll .

Chloe's Doll House

Chloe's Doll house has been in the planning stages for about 5 months , I had asked my brother-in-law Gary Colvin if he could make one for her 8th birthday on March 31st.
I had found the furniture at The Second Hand Rose Thrift Store in winter Haven, I found the red furniture first and then was wanting more ,as I needed the table ,chairs  & etc.about a month later they had more and with the table & chairs so I got those also ,but I still could not find a couch or bed , that was ok I was going to buy ther plastic doll furntiure from walmart but they sold out at christmas and did not reorder any. When I went to Mom's in Feburaury I made the mini quilts you see above .
There were some problems about how I wanted the house to look so it was put aside until I arrived back at Mom's just last week , with it being spring break for the kids I decided to take Chloe with me for her birthday , we got there on sat. I then left Chloe with her great grandmother to see how the house was coming along and it was looking good and I pointed out that I wanted the roof the way it looks now simply because I thought the roof could be used as an outside room or whatever she wanted it to be .
Then My sister, Tina and I made the bed out of leftover wood , I was going to wait until the 31st to give her the house, but Gary had it done on monday so I decided to go ahead and give it to her that afternoon simply because she was bored .........so we got it back to Mom's and I made the curtians , sheets and pillow cases ,Mom made 2 yarn crocheted rugs , I also made bunk beds out of cardboarb boxes and dowels .That will not last long and I will try to make another one out of wood  .
After Chloe started playing with it she moved furniture around several times !
At this time the House is sitting in my living room , I plan to add wallpaper, carpet, pictures, lamps & etc. we will make some mini dishes and accessories out of clay and I may keep that project for the summer while they are home from school.Should be fun !
