Creative Grandchrildren

Last week was Spring Break for us , so Samantha and I had plans to go to Mom's and take both girls and Waylon with us.
Sarah had gotten and machine for Christmas last year
we took it with us and the next day after getting to Grandma's she decided she was going to sew, while we were in another room she had already cut out
what she wanted to make .
Very intense worker
                                                  Got to be just right
                                                             Almost done
Chloe decided she wanted to try it too
           Sewing away

Rexa's Quilt

My sister Rexa had seen this in a magazine I had taken to Mom's about 4 or 5 years ago , it started out small , then she decided she wanted it bigger so between Mom ,Rexa and I we had changed it around several times and added some other patterns that we liked.
We have been working on it for 4 years putting it on the wall and Mom would take it down and work on it until we went back up to her house.Which was not real often , maybe every 4 months or longer.
This has been on the wall since the end of Dec of 2013 .

Mom has had me working on the applique's every time I went up , and this last time we had almost all of it ready for the Blanket stitching ,so I finished all that while there last week .

It is now ready for Mom to put the blocks together

Basket with Flower from another pattern
Just a simple Flower
                                               Sun Flower
This and the pink one look like cherry's but not sure what the designer calls it.
This will be a Bunny Rabbit under a Tulip Flower
This last picture shows how it will look once she gets the blocks together, then the sashings , there will be a row of 2 inch squares then a 5 or 6 inch boarder.
Mom will be doing hand quilting on it and adding the emboridered eyes to the insects and bunny rabbit.
I will show a finish quilt when she gets it done .

Craft Class For March

My helpers and I decided we would like to have the children get started on Mother's Day Gifts For all the Church Ladies !
So we came up with the idea to make Mug Rugs , I ironed some plain cloth onto Freezer paper ,cut them in squares and rectangles .I gathered up some paints , stamp pads , Fabric markers and crayons.
I made a couple samples for the children to get an idea what we wanted them to do.

This one is my grand daughter Sarah's , she pretty much followed my sample along with an idea of her mothers, it is all free hand and she used the Fabric markers.
This is Issac's once he saw the stamps he was really into this so this one is all paint.
George  the oldest boy there used markers and paint .
This one is Bethany's , she wore a plain white satin blouse ,so I asked her to do hers in crayons ,but when she saw others with the stamps she wanted to do that too, so I helped her with it , I did not want her to get paint on he blouse !  Her's is crayons and paint.

This is Issac's first one ,he started out with the Fabric markers, he did not have very much on it when he said he was done , I said really ! don't you think we could add some more to it , so I got him started with the stamps .

Makayla's

Chloe's

Some of these I do not remember who's is who's .Hard to keep track when they forget their names .

These 2 are my daughter -in-law  Samantha's , she was suppose to help and did but wanted to draw too.
This one is a sample I made and Sarah went by this for her's
These 4 were done by the  youngest in the whole group , toddlers , done with crayons, my Grandson Waylon helped Ms Robin with them.
When I pick them up after letting them dry really good I will bring them all home , Iron the colors into the fabric, then use batting and backing, machine quilt them, then add the binding.
When Mothers Day comes the children will pick someone in church to give the Mug Rugs to, They will also be making all their own Mothers a card.
I got this surprise at the last craft meeting, Ms Robin made these for all the class teachers.

New Fabric For Baby Quilt

I found this fabric at Walmart on sale ,they did not have any of the poke-a-dots ,I would love to find the brown, but will settle for the green or yellow too ,if anyone knows where I can get some please let me know.
I will use the stripes for the boarder, the poke-a-dots would look wonderful in blocks , this last picture shows a better close up.

Operation Christmas Child Hair Scunchies

I like to crochet simple things and these are really simple to make ,I want to make as many as I can until Nov.of this year for our Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes
I use these bands ,single crochet around and add extra for stretch then single crochet 3 stitches to make loop into a single stitch to form loops all around can make as wide as you want with the same stitches ,just keep adding 3 stitches to form loop into another loop.
Sorry I am not that good with tutoring ,but hope you understand how it is done.

Hibiscus and Roses that Bloomed last Week

I love this bright yellow Hibiscus, I brought it from Lowe's late summer last year. I took in in when we had freezing weather. It bloomed for the first time this year!

This Red Rose is suppose to be a almost Black Rose , at least that is what the name of it was when I planted it ,so not sure if it should be called something else , It too bloomed last week.
The whole bush is very tall , I need to trim it soon.
This yellow Rose bush also came from Lowe's I forget the name of it , but this is the first time I have ever had a full bloom and a bud together like this , So all of these flower's bloomed at the same time . I just hope we do not get another freeze, but I can stand the cooler weather better than the heat over 79 degree's .
I also have a deep peach Rose bush and hope it blooms soon.

Free Motion Quilting for a Friend

While chatting with a friend on Facebook we got to talking about this quilt that she has had so much trouble with and was asking for my advice ,I told her I wished i could help her but she lives in SC. & I  live in Florida , (she used to live in Winter Haven too) well it came about that she would send it to me to look at and at the same time she asked me to quilt it and I agreed. So she sent it to me with the backing that she wanted to use.
I had taken it with me to Mom's ,we both agreed that it really should be 2 quilts ( back was same fabric as front with one strip of black  braids in the middle. I forgot to mention the pattern is a braid pattern.Anyway we did find where it needed to be corrected on a couple of corners and we said we could use the backing but that it would be smaller than it should be.
Well when I went to lay it out I found out the backing was and inch too small all around , I was going to make the top part smaller by taking up the seams but I would have had to rip out the top and bottom boarder, Donna would not hear of it , she did not want me to go through all that, so she went to her quilt shop to get more fabric for the back and I should say she brought enough for 3 quilts .
The black above is the backing.Noticed that I did hearts and swirls on the boarder part .I strippled the gold.
Then while working on the gold I noticed the black was puckering and in trying to make sure the back stayed flat I failed to make sure about the top so Only quilted  the points on the braid. If I ever do one like this again I will be sure to baste it first.
She got the quilt today and is very happy with what I fixed for her that she could not do.
next week I will quilt the other one that was suppose to be the backing.
On that one I will do the straight line quilting to look like criss cross work and then she asked me to do more hearts and swirls.
