Pencil Bags

My Granddaughter Kayla lives in Michigan , I received a surprise request from her a couple weeks ago .
She asked me if i could make her some pencil bags because the plastic ones always tear easy.
I told her I was sure I could and asked how many did she want .....she said as many as I can make LOL.
So far I have made 3 of each color .
They were pretty simple to figure out, the hard part was making the holes for the binders
On the blue I use the little plastic rings we use on pot holders, but I did not have enough.... so I tried using the machine for the rings with the fine zigzag stitch, it did not look as good as I like , I will be on the look out for some large eyelets , hopefully they will work better.

Mom's Mums

Back in Nov. while at Mom's we ended up with freeze warnings, so we covered many plants and lots of these didn't really need it, but I wanted to cut some just in case.
These were in a vase on her table for the rest of my visit, they lasted so long .
.By the way the ones outside were still looking great after the freeze.

Crochet Necklace

Necklace made for me by Jane Griggs ,in exchange for making a lining for a handbag Jane made, she crocheted this necklace for me out of ribbon and yarn.
It is very simple to make .

Handkerchief Butterfly Quilt Blocks

When I went to Mom's in Nov. she had asked me to help her with these .
So we spent one morning working with them, then I used a blanket stitch design from my Janome 6500 machine all around each one .
We pinned 20 blocks, but only stitched 12, we are waiting till I go back to finish the other 8, in the mean time she is doing the heads and antenna's of the butterfly's.
When we have it all together with batting and backing, I am sure Mom will want to hand quilt it .

Simple Handbags

While I was at Mom's in Nov. I made all these simple handbags for Christmas gifts for all the girls in my family. I did not have a pattern I just took what I had left of a Fat Quarter added some batting and backing in rectangle shape , I folded in half sewed 2 side seams and then on the bottom I pinched it and made another seam to get the flat look .
Then I cut 3 more strips, one extra wide for a cuff and 2 same size for straps ,cut 2 small squares for extra pockets and bingo, simple hand bag .

This one is done with 4 patch squares and 4 in. squares

and is larger than the first one.

These 2 are smaller and all of them are machine quilted ,

some of them I made crochet flowers with a button on them .

These were made from left over patches of quilts .

The next 2 are lots smaller for little girls .

My sister Rexa asked for 3 .

This one I made the flower you saw on another post ,

I like it on the bag but it does not have to stay there,I have yet to find out if she likes it .

I made this one for my sister Tina's Granddaughter ,it matches the quilt Mom made.All of the larger bags have a heavy peice of cardboard on bottom for better shape ,the little ones still need the cardboard.

Computer Desk Chair Seat C,over

My sister Tina had seen a quilted seat cover and told Mom she would like one .
So Mom made one for her for Christmas .
Now I need to make one for myself .

Mirror's For The Blue Birds

Several times when we went to Mom's we would see a blue bird land on the car mirror's, Mom had said that is the only time she see's them. So Tina decided to come up with a plan , ,she had several small mirrors at home, then went to town and came back with the round ones.
Then while Rexa and I was making the cushions for the swing Tina made these ,One for Mom , with the red, one for herself and one for me, mine is the smallest .

When Tina brought the round ones they came with a part to hang them with, at first she was going to hang it on the tree ,then we decided it would be better if the bird had a place to land to look in the mirror, so Tina took one home with her to show Gary and this is what he came up with , the wood platform !! He burned the wood to make it look like this ,so he made 2 and Mom's is now hanging on the tree right where she can see it from the porch swing.
Mom loves it ,hopefully the bluebird will too.
I may not put mine outside ,I have it laying on a table with a quilt top for now.

Mom's Birthday

Before my sister Rexa and I went to Mom's for her birthday we had to go to Joanne's for fabric .Our sister Tina wanted to make Mom a new cushion for the porch swing..
So Friday morning we started the cushions , the flower and the green is what we brought at Joanne's and of course it was pretty expensive , so glad Rexa had a coupon !!
We was going to buy the 4 or 5 in thick foam but it was more than our pocketbook could handle ! So we went to Walmart and brought the foam that you can put on your bed .

Well it still was not thick enough folded, so we used the old flat ones in between the foam and it was then thick enough to be comfortable.The blue flower and green was only one yard. Tina wanted to add blue Jean to it, that is why there are so many colors , the plain dark and light blue,tan and brown is all blue jean pants fabric . Mom loves it !

The last picture is close up of that real expensive fabric ...we just had to have it !!
Tomorrow I will show what Tina made .

Last Minute Gifts

Camo Duffle bags for the guys !

I made 7 of these , all different ,they loved them ! I decided to make them when I realized I did not have enough for all the guys so I made them in a matter of hours .

They are ideal for camping trips to hold snacks ,drinks and etc or just a days change of clothing or whatever they want to use it for .

I did not have any ,but they would look better with heavy cardboard in the bottom of the bag to help with sturdiness.

Antique Look- Dresden Kitchen Quilts

While I was at Mom's we made lots of Pot Holders , these we copied from a mag. I had gotten at a quilt show for .25 cents ,there was an article about Kitchen Quilts , These here are call Dresden pattern and I used the old fashion look fabric to make them look Antique , I made 12 of these , Mom made about the same of the flower pattern .
The book below does not show the dresden holder, it is on another page , I forgot to take a picture.
If you look at the book on the top left middle holder the flowers are made with tiny yoyo's ,those will be next .

Here is a couple flower holders Mom made , she asked me to finish the centers and do the blanket stitching.

We made most for gifts, but keeping some for ourselves too, after Christmas I will be making more ,I also want to experiment with some of the other old looking ones .

Handmade Flower

When my sister and Mom came to get me we decided to stop in at the Fabric Warehouse in Lakeland , we saw a flower similar to this, I asked if I could buy it, they said it was for display, I asked for a pattern , they were out , so when I got to Mom's I decided to try to make one with out a pattern and this is what I came up with .

I had to look at it a long time to remember how it looked like it was put together, I think I came in pretty close.
There is more leaves on the strawberries now though. The pillow is an old one of Mom's, I did not make it for that, it can be used on pillows, handbags or as a hairpiece.
Also the flower is just as pretty without the strawberries.

3 Finished Quilts

The green in this quilt was from one piece of cloth that had 7 different shades of green, each color was in one long strip.

This is left over 9 patches from 2 other quilts I made into a table top.

This last one is a baby quilt I made for the Pastors first grandson, it is what they wanted, but a surprise at the same time. I also made a teddy bear out of the same colors like the patched bunny rabbit I used to make, I don't see a picture so I guess I forgot to take one. Maybe I can show it in another post.
In this picture it shows that it is not finished , I finished it while at Mom's and the 2 top ones I made there too.

Little Red Button Christmas Tree

I was shown a link to"Oh So Shabby by Debbie Reynolds " on Facebook by our Pastor's wife .I just loved the all white one, but have not collected enough button's of different ones yet, so I am waiting on that one.
She also had mixed, so I decided to try it in red and this is how it came out .This is very easy and fun to make !

Christmas Stockings

We had fun making these ,the first one is appicade I went and brought some ornaments at walmart and put those on there Mom already had the weath , I was trying to find more ,no luck there.
the others we just did what came to us .I love the 2'Square ones ,I put buttons on the x's in the squares .

This with the lace is like 2 that Mom made for herself last year and my sister Rexa wanted some just like them ,so Mom made 2 for her,the lace on the heal is a real crocheted dollie that we cut up.

This one above is not finished , it was another one of my ideas ,I will be adding more to it, it is for myself so if I don't get it done this year, I will for next year.

These last 4 were for Grandchildren that live next door, I was going to let them decorate them, they took them home, maybe we will get to them soon.

My pictures are not going where I want them to, the quilted square stockings are suppose to be with the last two.

I am Back !!! I Have new stuff to show !!

I am so glad to be back to Blogging !!! I have missed it so much !! And the reason for not being able to is because my other computer just all of a sudden lost all my programs ,internet explorer,& many other things , I could not get them back . Just last week my husband found this one for a good deal ,he asked if I wanted it now or for Christmas ...You can bet I said NOW!!! LOL
Ok long story short , in October I was busy with DR. appointments for myself and my husband, then I was wanting to go on to Mom's, but my sister Rexa had asked me to help with a Halloween party she had planned , so I ended up helping with the party which turned out excellent , I will post pictures and a story about that in Jan . I have other Christmas stuff to show now . Then right after the party my baby sister and Mom came here to get me ,from here we went to Fabric Warehouse in Lakeland , then to Peoples BBQ in Auburndale!! So good !! Got to Live Oak before dark.
I was only going to stay with Mom for 2 weeks , it was with our understanding that Rexa would come up after 2 weeks but she could not make it, so I was there for 3 weeks !!
Mom and I got so much sewing done , we finished quilts we had started, then we cut out more lap quilts, table tops for Christmas and everyday , we made 18sq. pot holders , 12 dredsen pot holders ,18 flower pot holders, one star and one round ,12 stockings , 12 pillow cases 9 PJ bottoms , 9 hand bags ,couple of dresses, started 4 more quilt tops with Mom , made some scrunchies ,Mom knitted some wash rags .
The quilt you see on this post is my first free hand ,free motion whole cloth quilt , the pink you see is the starting point, it will wash out, then from that main flower I just worked my way around the rest with what ever came to me . I plan to make more like this .
There is probably more to tell about, but this is the first time we have ever made so many different things and had a ball too!
So with time I will be showing everything we made along with my Christmas sewing ,decorating and etc.
I am very happy to be blogging again !!!!!

Fall -Its that time agian !

Even though the calendar says it is Fall it sure doesn't feel like it here in Florida,

I dream of being at a place like the falls above with the different color leaves .

So it is time to get my fall decorations out again , I am showing an old photo that has been on here before , I am having lots of computer problems ,I have lost most of my programs and it won't let me download them again ,.so therefore I am not even sure I can load new photo's , I am almost afraid to try , Hopefully I can get this one fixed or borrow another one temporaily.

I will try to come back often even if its just to say Hi for now .

More Tapestries !!

These are some more Tapestries that I brought at a yard sale for very little cash ,each panel is about 16" x16" ,I am not sure how I want to use them but they can be used on hand bags, book covers and crazy quilt pieces ,even a pillow .

I can't wait to see these embellished ,with trims, ribbons and emboridery, buttons and charms .Maybe even some victorian lace .

Crochet Mask

This is a mask that my Pastor took a picture of when he was in South America 3 or 4 years ago on a missionary trip. I had forgotten all about it until I just now come across it again. I don't know whats going on with the nose .....but it looks like there may be quite a few crocheted dolls in the back ground too.
I can't remember the area he was in at the time .
I thought it was interesting to show.

Another Yard Sale Find !

We went to an Upholstery shop that was going out of business, this is just some of the threads I picked up,I know the bobbins will not fit my machines but I can still use the thread for top stitching, embroidery work and maybe machine sewing .

The tapestries was very few but I did pick up the sample book and the one cloth and a leathery look fabric.

I want to use all these tapestries for crazy quilting, I can just see the beads, embroidery work, buttons, ribbon and charms on them! I just love this one !

There are 30 sheets and all colors and designs ,I will probably use all of these in one quilt .I went back to get more threads but another lady beat me to it !! Ahhh!!!!

Wedding Invite - RSVP

This is a RSVP card that was sent to me by my Nephew and is bride for their Wedding. The one card was blank and they asked that we respond with something on the card as they wanted to display them for the reception..I could not think what to put on it ,finally I went to their Facebook pages and found this of a sunrise on Ashley's wall.

The top is the one I painted, the bottom is the one I copied, but I did not get the colors just like it, as I was wanting them to wonder and asked them if they recognized it .I do not know what they thought of it yet . It is a challenge when you only have one card to work with and postcard size at that!

A Day with the Kids and Paint

After spending about an hour looking at all my High School Art work the night before , we all decided we wanted to try to paint like I did one where you put lots of paint on the paper and then blow with a straw.

I could not remember the type of paint we used, but thought it was tempera , we used watered down acrylics and discovered it was harder to blow through the straw to get the paint to move so we left out the straw and just tilted the paper and blew that way , we had fun just the same .

After awhile I decided to use some muslim fabric to use up what paint was left because I did not want to let it dry up.

I will either use them for art Quilts or cut them in squares for a table top.

Bradley and his work looks similar to mine.

This is the construction paper I used under the fabric to paint on , and the results ! well different to me... kind of looks like sky and water.

Craft Day

I had this board for a long time , I used to do wood burning art , and this is just an extra one that did not have anything on it except around the edges , since Giraffe's are Chloe's favorite animal ...Samantha my DIL saw the giraffes in a book ,cut it out ,glued it to the board and used pieces of tree bark and limbs ,along with tiny rocks ,also tree bark from a Crepe Myrtle Tree. ( the one curled up ) Chloe loved it .

These are some home made candle holders ,jar is marshmellow cream jar and the tins are from tuna and vienna sausage can's , we use the ting rocks and shells, and also the half marbles on glass with rocks in between , very simple to do. I love the biggest one lit up !
These crafts were done over the summer , I have lots to catch up on.... .hopefully I will be posting more often now.

Going Away to College

This is Miss Heather from my church who is leaving for Flager College soon .
We had a going away party for her after Sunday evening service.

I decided to give her some crocheted scrunchies and a roll of quarters , this was part of a list of items she needed , I was running out of time and did not want to go to town to get a gift bag. I was out !

So I decided to just make a bag really quik .I used a fat quarter cut it about 7 by 14 with batting and black backing and made 2 handles sewed them into the top before turning ,machine quilted it ,sewed up the sides and bottom and then made a nip on the corners for a rectangled look .

Hopefully she will find something else to keep in it at college.

This is my Splendar Quilt entered in the Quilts and Tea Quilt Show last year in Davernport, I got a honorable mention for that .I got the pattern from a book called Dazzeling Quilts .

Calico's

I had a huge bag of fabric's given to me by a friends mother from church.
I am not sure how I want to used this fabric, a few years ago I would normaly use it for a poineer costume,so now either a scrapy quilt to look old, ruffled skirts for the girls to wear to church or what ever ....any ideas ?

Yard Sale Find !

Remember these highchairs where there are steps that fold up under the seat .

I remember Grandma Schoonover having one.... us kids loved it .

I found it at a yard sale last weekend ,they were asking $15. for it I got it for $10.

This tall book case was only $2.00!

The butterflies $1.00 each.

I will be cleaning up the chair and repainting it ,maybe cover the seat with cloth.,I want it to look vintage and I will show it again when it is done.

The book case I need in my room for more books and etc, sewing stuff of course !

The butterflies I plan to repaint like the ones I did for my friend Tracey and then hang them out front with my flowers .

My Little Helper

Sarah happened to come over after playing outside wanting to help me ,so I told her what color square to hand me.

She was doing pretty good ,then asked me this ... Grandma will you teach me to Sew!

I told her I would love to teach her but we needed a smaller machine for her . she said ok

So she keeps helping me ,I had to tell her to keep her hands back ,then the next thing I know while I am sewing..... the machine is going RRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!! I was trying to stop it and then realized she had her foot on the peddel too!!!

She is a very determind little girl and is wanting to learn right now !

Window Painting

This is a window that I had started working on last year and never did finish it , I have it started by drawing and coloring on paper to see how it would look and used it as a guide too .
I started to paint it and was not happy with the results , I did not take a picture of the paint work yet , Hopefully soon I can get back to it and finish it for Mom..I wanted to hang it up on the outside of her house over the patio area..
The design came out of a Quiltmaker Magazine and is part 4 of a series of quilt patterns .This one is called Bunny Patch by Lynda Milligan and Nancy Smith.I could make this quilt in no time but painting it is hard to do on glass.

Gift From My Cousin- Vintage Sheet Fat Quarters

My cousin Susan McConnell sent me all these Fat quarters of vintage sheets .I was amazed that she was able to find so many sheets at the thrift store .She said she had enough to share .
Now to decide how I want to make a quilt out of these.
The two flowered ones are like sheets I used to have a long time ago.No telling what happened to those .
I will post again when I decide the pattern.

Kids Crafts - What Fun !!

I had 3 of my Grandchildren with me last Saturday night .So after playing outside , on the computer and eating Pizza I decided to let them make a scrap book .

We used brown paper bags the ice cream comes home in , we cut the bottoms off then took out the seam where it was glued and folded in half length wise -cut, then devided in 3's and cut, fold that in half and punched holes in it with a hole puncher then added Raffia for the binding to hold it together.Which gave us several pages to work with .

Then I gave them all a bunch of magazine's I no longer wanted to keep , they had a ball cutting out their favorite thing, Chloe left some to draw and color herself .

The giraffe's we saw from the computer it was very bright , her favorite animal .Sarah's is Horses and Waylon loves dogs and tigers

They were pretty tired after this, we had some ice cream and then they watched some more TV, got up the next morning and went to church with Grandma.

Remember all the fuss about Walmart taking the fabrics out of the stores ?!

Well they are back ! This is the new fabric Dept. in Auburndale 's Walmart store .

I was so happy to hear they were bringing it back , Only a few of the stores are adding them back .They really never should have taken them away.

Thank you Walmart !!

Chloe say's she wants the one way up there !

Sarah can't decide because there are so many buttons to chose from ....she loves them all !

This is my first fabric buy for now , when we get paid I will be going back for more . I do love the quilt shops but they are pretty expensive , and this is closer to home too .Now I can just go there for the necessary items and grab some fabric at the same time .Patterns !.......... would you believe only $1.97 each !

Difficult Pattern

Back in 2008 just before we went to Pa.to visit my sister picked out this pattern from one of my mag.'s called "Quiltmaker" this was part of a pattern called Patchwork Garden. There was a series of 4 lessons or 4 different quilts that could have been put together to make one .

My sister Rexa picked out the colors she wanted , Mom had decided just before I went up last June to try to get it started , she got this much done, it was not very big , I thought it was going to be a wall hanging but Rexa insits it was to be a big quilt , so Mom was having a hard time trying to make 6 panels just like this one.

I told her that there were 3 other ones with different pattern designs to go with it but that we really need the other 3 books to do it , I found one here .Anyway my sister Rexa has recently been to visit with Mom and she has made quite a few changes, so hope Mom will be able to get it the way she told me how it was to be done , Rexa says it will be simple, Mom does not agree..... so when I go back later we will see how this turns out . It will probably take her awhile to do it as there are quite a few blocks that call for handwork .

Mom Knows How To Stay Busy !

Last time I went to Moms she had several more quilt tops made, some for gifts, some for donations and some to just keep . I love how she made these 3 that I am showing now, the top one she got out of a magazine I left with her. I love how she made the boarder to this , it is different .

This second one is also out of one of my magazines it is called Layered Bricks

This last one is out of one of her quilt books and it is left over basket weave blocks ,some were matches to ones I have in my large Basket Weave Quilt .Mom knows how to stay busy and loves to make new tops , she always has new ones to show when I get there. So if she is not sewing, she is reading or working outside in her flower garden if it isn't too hot.

My Yard Art

Finally after waiting on my husband to cut me a pole the correct size I gave up and attached it differently than I planned .So I ended up with lots more green color in it than it was to begin with and that was so I could make it a tighter fit .I used 3 candy dishes ,a small goblet ,a small candle holder and a flower vase, then attached the wooden ball I got from the dollar store for the top, under the up-side down vase is a olive jar, also upside down with the green half marbles in between to keep it a tight fit. I used hot melt glue for that part and the clear silicone for the glass on top,
The blue globe is like my mothers, hers was red with grout, I decided to leave mine plain, I did not care for the grout look.
The table is a plastic tray with sea shells and filler with a glass top and more sea shells all around the edge . I have all these just out side my front door.

   I took all these pictures of the sunset on Sunday evening, it was in a span of about 10 min's.
   Our sunsets are never the same, they are always beautiful, but never last long .
   I was trying to capture God's beautiful work and the wonders of Mother Nature.

Knitted Handbag made by a Friend

I went to church one morning and Robin (Pastors Wife )had this in a bag ,said her boss Jane Griggs from Lighthouse Christian Book Store wanted me to line the bag for her and re-enforce the top so it would not stretch.

I simply Love how this was made and with all the bold colors she worked in it ,it is like a basket weave but knitted .

This is the color of the linning and I used 3 inche wide horsehair stiffening around the top under the lining .

I would say the straps are store brought and it is perfect for this bag.

It looks like she knitted each color then weaved them together and then knitted them all together at the top with a wide band .

Night Blooming Cereus

We have a good friend in the neighbor hood who is owner of a flower garden that sells to local Florist, he came over to tell us about this beautiful night blooming catsus flower on his huge oak tree.
So my husband and I went over there ,of course I forgot my camera so we came back to get it and these are just a few we took , Jim's son and my husband got onto the back of the pick up to get close enough to get this close up of the first 2 pictures .
The flower only blooms at night , there are no thorns and is also called Queen Of The Night -Dutchman's Pipe .

Community Event -Beach Party

       Just Look at the blue lips !! Sarah loved the homemade Blueberry Icee . The Community of K-Ville that my husband and I are members of had this planned for several months , most of the planning was all done by our Activities Director, Daisy Bennett and her husband.
   Usually we have a spring Fling and Fall Fest, well they decided to do something different this time and wanted to do this for the last day of school for the summer. Part of the plans was to have a beach with white sand which was Daisy's idea to do this with the tarp,sand and have water sprinklers with it . The lids loved it! ! Especially the little ones , Sarah (my youngest grand daughter) and this boy went out there when it was almost over, so I got good pictures of them, I think the blue tarp and sand with the water makes it look natural.
  We also had a cookie (cake ) walk , fishing board game where the fish for a prize, pop the ping pong ball in the bowl for live fish , a Dunk Tank ,Treasure hunt and a couple other games, plus hot dogs,chips and sodas.
   There was a good turn out, I took lots of pictures but with a throw away camera, so I have to get those developed soon., a friend and I are talking about making a blog and web site just for the history and events.
   My husband is the Building Supervisor and I am the Historian so we are pretty active with our community and events,the next event will be the national Night Out.

Remote Control caddy

I made this for Mom because

whenever I would visit we would both be using the end table for sewing stuff ,our cups or glasses ,& etc., the remotes would always be in the way!

So I found this piece of heavy cotton or maybe it was a dacron, not sure ,anyway I folded it lenght wise about 32 inches long ,sewed together and turned

Then I laid the remotes on it to get the proper length for that and pinned for 2 pockets

I used a fancy stitch all around and for the pockets, there you have a Remote Caddy.... I made it long enough to lap over the arm chair and tucked the plain end down the side of the cushions.Really gave us lots more space , I have seen them made before in books ,so I decided she needed one too . She loves it !

This is also a good idea for paper ,pens and what ever anyone wants to put in it ,extra pockets would be good too.

Another Crazy Quilt

This is another one Mom and I started last year , I brought them home to put together, then realized it would be so much nicer if we added more of the emboridery work and lace before sewing the rest together.

When I got back to Mom's we added more fancy embellishments and etc.

I used some Navy blue Brocade for the sashing,then because it was in different lengths we decided to add a red taffada square to match the boarder.

We like this better than the first with the squares in it, then I will finish by adding more laces and buttons and etc,I still have to add the backing to it which might be gold satin, I have not decided for sure yet.

The boarder is fabric Mom had gotten from another quilter that was giving away what she did not want ,it is burgany satin with fuzzy spider webs .We renforced all the blue and burgany to help keep the shape better as this fabric can be flimsy .

We plan to put it in the quilt show this fall and hope that maybe we can sell it later and split the cost for another trip to PA.

Grandma Ely's Quilt Pattern Renewed

When I went to Mom's this last time I had the pattern

all cut, ready to Sew. If you remember I had posted about the picture below of my daughter and nephew on a blue & white quilt made by my Great Grandma Ely.

I could only make 3 as I ran out of the white, it is ok as it was really just a sample ,however I was hoping to get 4 so I could go ahead and give Mom a lap quilt of it for her own memory of Grandma Ely, maybe I can find some more at Hancock's Fabrics

I laid the 3 blocks out both ways to show how it would look as a bigger quilt .

I have made the pattern, so I will try for a new quilt someday soon.Maybe a red & white ,do I dare !!?

This fabric was a gift from another blogger when I entered a contest to follow her ,I can't remember what the contest was about but Grandma Rockten said I won that week,she said I could make it like the pattern or how ever way I wanted , I chose to just sew all the blocks together .

I had the blocks sashing and boarder all together when I got to Mom's and then I decided to do the X's in the squares and then I used 2 different sencils of Mom's for the sashing and boarder.

I was not really happy with just the way it was , I wanted it to look more unquine,I asked Mom what she thought about crocheting a dark color lace trim for it to match the dark brown , we found some patterns and I attemped to crochet one with the very small crochet hook ,

I decided that was going to be too much and take forever for me to make, so when I was digging in one of my tubs of trims for the crazy quilts, I found this ivory lace that we had when we had the costume shop, there was yards of it left over and I said this would be perfect!!

I love this ! I just have to hand sew it on and then it will be a nice throw for my bed .

My cousin Krista is due in June ,she is having a boy and his name is Matt, Mom had started the panels for a quilt months ago .

Mom had sent me a letter back in Jan or Feb, asking me to make a teddy bear like I made for all the grand kids in our family ,she said she has the Winnie The Pooh fabric and did I still have some from another quilt .I told her I did and so when I arrived at Mom's this last time I made the Teddy Bear from her's and my Winnie The Pooh fabrics plus some others , the blue checks is in the quilt .

There is a story about the bear , when my sisters & I started having grandchildren I came up with this idea of making each pattern piece a different color ,but the first ones were rabbits, not a bear , We had noticed that the babies seem to really love the bright colors and would look at it for a long time ,it seemed to be soothing to them . I also made and sold lots to friends and relatives.

After I got done with the Bear we wanted to get it shipped right away, but had to wait on a box and then Mom did not have enough wrapping paper either, so I used this checked fabric she had left from the quilt for wrapping the quilt in , thank goodness Mom had lots of ribbon on hand, so I made the bow too.

She let me have what tissue paper she had for the bear and I also used more cloth ribbon for this one.

Krista received the package this week and said she loves both and said Winnie the Pooh was her favorite!

Krista also decided that Mom's quilt would be the one to go to the hospital with her to bring Matt home in.Hope it is not too hot in PA for it when he is born.

Mom had 2 of these kitchen globes in her cupboard that had been there since she moved there .

We saw a clipping somewhere about using old bowling balls for outside globes (yard art).

So we went to the Family Dollar store and brought some half stones, 2 bags of one color was not enough so we ended up going after more .

This blue one is mine , I could not find anymore blue so I got the white and some gold, and decided to add flowers after Tina made the suggestion.

I used 100% clear silicone sealer .worked pretty good ,I just had to go slow so it would stay.

Then I was not sure if we wanted to grout them or not , Mom said try it , so we got some. I thought it was already mixed, but it was in powder form, had to mix it, I was afraid to at first because of the powder, so being really careful using glasses, gloves ,I mixed it .

This is how it looked grouted and I did not like it, but I think Mom does.

Ran out of the blue again ,

found out Tina had some at her house so she gave me what she had .

I put gold around the bottom rim, then finished it here at home today.

Yard Art - Totem Pole For Mom

I saw this in another magazine and I am almost sure it was a Birds and Bloom but it could have been a different book.Anyway I just knew I had to make one so I went to the thrift store to look for pretty glass before I went to Mom's

This jar was at my sisters in their garage ,I use a wooden pole for the base.turned the jar upside down and use 100% silcone sealer to keep it in place .

This is what I used for Mom's I had several shapes and she liked this ,so I used silcone sealer to keep them together I made sure I used lots of it.

this is with a large plastic tray ,Mom was worried about water getting into it ,that is a candle holder on top.

She opted out for this smaller glass tray said it looks better to her

Then she wanted something inside the glass but we did not have any thing except these purple flowers ,at one time we talked about waiting till we went to town again to get some glass marbles but we was not sure when that would be as she lives 20 miles from Live Oak, but only 7 miles from Mayo , we went there twice but they don't have lots to chose form there.

In this photo we found the wooden balls at The family Dollar Store for only a dollar and thought they looked good on top . I don;t like the red an purple together , we was going to change the flowers out but I could not get it apart with out breaking it so maybe someone will paint it purple or it can wait till I go back in July.
I made one for myself but will post it later.

Outside Yard Art -Bird Feeder & Planter

Got this idea from Birds & Bloom Extra

Mom's neighbor Don was going to a used parts shop ,Mom asked if he could find a hub cap. he said he would get 2 of them ,Notice it is perfect for this .where the small hub is the magazine said to use a coffee filter from an old pertculator coffee pot , this was already there so we opted out on the filter .and had Gary drill a hole to fit ,the lamp was perfect for this !

On top of the hub cap is one of Mom's old candle holders she did not want anymore, the dangles were already on it ,the base of the feeder is an old chimmy flue, came out of mom's heater that was taken out and I put that over an old floor lamp , I used most of the lamp to put this together with, the bottom and the very top plastic is from where the lights used to be ,so on top of the candle holder I made it so she can have a flower pot on top and feeder on the hub cap but it can also be used for water.

There are all kinds of metals and etc hanging from the hub cap with copper wire ,We had the bowl on there ,Mom liked it but Tina said no use the bowl for one of the wind chimes you saw yesterday.

I have the hub cap for me one, but need to find the rest either around my house or at the thrift store , or any place where things are being thrown out ,I like the saying" One man's junk is another mans treasure" !

Mom had this log from the Evergreen tree that was removed a year ago ,she wanted it for a display of rusty items .Kind of plain.

As for the wind chimes ,we had found pictures of them in a Birds and Bloom magazine .

Mom had saved it for quite some time and we decided they were going to get made when I went up there this time . they were fun to make , we sure had Gary busy drilling the holes though. I used thin copper wire so they would last longer, when we had a breeze Mom said they were making pretty sounds ,then when we had a bad rain storm last sat. the silverware on mine was spinning straight out and spinning really fast .

In the mean time we were waiting for Mom's neighbor Don to bring us some hub caps for a bird feeder that I will show tomorrow.

Day #2 at Moms on Friday

For a long time now Mom and us girls have been

wanting these bushes and the front walkway taken out , the tree's were causing the 5 inch thick 14" x14" blocks to pop up in places where we were afraid Mom or anyone would trip and fall from them ,the bushes were in the way of mowing the right side of the yard as Gary could not get to it from the back with his big mower .So they all decided we would get it done ,.Gary used his new John Deere Tractor to pull up the bushes, which left big holes in the ground .

See this Red Brick ! there is a tree root growing in one of the holes this is what kept me from getting it out of the way , therefore caused me to lose my balance and stepped into one of the deep holes where there used to be a bush, then I was trying to use the shovel to keep my self from falling more and made a big gash on the shin of my right leg ! Ouch !!!

Had to treat it everyday while there ,hurt for a long time .

Black Eyed Susans ans wild Phlox

There were wild flowers all along the highway from Archer to High Springs to Mayo & Luraville

Most of it was very colorful , these pictures does not do it justice !

There were places where the flowers would be very pink with touches of deep reds , whites and more purple too , and the yellows were really thick and close together. I have always enjoyed traveling the roads to north Florida in April , seems they want the roads to look good and therefor they have less mowing to do .

My Craft and Storage Shed

This shed was given to us by a neighbor friend ,he had gotten a new one and wanted to get rid of this one , he knew I was wanting one ,so my husband and friends went to get it and had it set up for me in Jan. It is not the best but Iwas desperate for soemthing to put my stuff in, as most of this was in one room of the house and some in the living room ,and some in a very small garden shed .

This will be a work station where I do most crafts, gourds and painting, I need to get a better table , I will get that later.Can you belive all this was in the house !!

I know it is not the best looking shed but I will have to make it look better as I go.

This is what it looks like right now , my husband has promised me he would put new doors on it that open like real doors and not slide like this, later on I may paint it and then maybe add a barn quilt to the side .I will be adding more flower pots around the left side & the front .To the right goes to the back yard and my wash area.

The shed was carried in from a flat bed trailer by 6 guys ,then my husband & I were trying to get it ready for the floor by digging for the blocks to lay the frame , another neighbor saw what were we doing and volunteered to build the frame himself as he knew we were unable to do hard labor, my husband is on oxygen for CPOD, so we were blessed to have the help we did get ,then I had to wait awhile for it to stop being so cold so I could paint the wood for shelves and the tabl , finally he was able to put the shelves up with my help, then I was able to get it filled ,There is so much more room in the house now .

Table Top For Ms Robin

This is the random color table top ,I just started cutting the 2 inch squares and then randomly sewed them up .

This is the outcome ,it is almost 8 feet long ,I had asked members of the family how long the table was and they said they were almost sure it was an 8ft table , so I decided to make it shorter than that so it would not hang over the edge too short or too long .

I did not have a place to hang it to take the picture so, my husband held it at the top of his Golf cart for me.

Idea for a 3 Tier Water Fall & Fountian

This is the huge Elephant Ear Plant we have out back by the corner of the house, sometimes they will get as long as 30 to 36 inches from the top to the point .
I have the instructions on how to use large leaves for the basic shape of a bird bath with cement , I want to make a tiered water fall some day for somewhere in the yard .
There are 2 things that have kept me from making it so far, how heavy it will be and then we will have to run electric to the water pump and add a pool, but I really do think it would be beautiful if i ever do make it and add lots of flowers and plants all around .
We have cut this back so many times and it always manages to come back, even after the cold winter we had in Dec.of 2010.

   This is the first time Aunt Kathy has ever been to my house, so I was pretty busy getting it ready for her visit. I am so glad we got together here as we all really enjoyed the visit .It turned out really good .   After awhile all the younger ones went next door to Kevin's with the little kids to give us older ones a chance to talk . Royce & Lou hit it off right away as they both had alot in common talking about the VietNam war.
   My aunt can write a better story and has one on her blog, I will get that down later ,we talked about quilting, sewing ,our time with the costume shop, what we do now and etc, I showed her some quilts she has only seen pictures of and a couple new ones. I gave her a small wall hanging of an old school room .She was pleased about that. She also liked the Farm quilt I had in the weekly contest this past weekend .And really liked the beaded one !
   There was so much I wanted to show her and talk about, but the afternoon went by too quickly and they had to leave . I had plans to show her the church mural up close ,that will have to wait another another time , I sure hope we can do this again next time they come to Florida. They were going to stay a few more days in Tampa then heading to her son's house and then go to NASA for a visit and then on their way back to Wellsboro ,PA. ,Our home town .She said we all need to go back up there to visit and I am more than willing to go ,so we plan to start another saving to go again. Hopefully by car or Van this time and not worry about a train. But I don't think I want to be the Driver this time .

   I was worried about it being too hot so my daughter-in-law & I put up a canopy , and we had 3 fans going too, so it was fine ,I don't think anyone complained about the heat. We was going to go borrow tables and chairs from the community center, but when Rexa got here, her and the kids all got extra tables and chairs from in here and around the house , as you can see the little girls were all seated at a bench with milk baskets for seats ,they loves it !.
All in all it was a great day ! Just hated to see it end .So now back to making quilts!

Sarah's Flower Girl Dress

Back in January of this year a friend of ours was getting married , they asked Sarah and her mother to be in the wedding , This is a dress given to her all I had to do was add the silver sash and hem it up .

I also made her a cape out of the silver lined with fleece .However I failed to get a picture of that too.

I am glad I made the cape for her, because it was quite cold that day!

Sarah was just tickled to death to be a Flower girl !

Gary's Bird Houses

My brother-in-law Gary got himself a barn a couple years ago ,he had been interested in woodwork for several years, these are just a few bird houses that he has done .He has made several different kinds of feeders, flower pots, he also made Chloe's doll house ,built shelves and cabinets too.

I love how smooth this one is before painting ,he has made a lot of them and different styles ,I will take more photo's when I go back to Live Oak , I am sure he has some new ones just waiting for the birds to

Two years ago I was working part time with my sister and was in the process of buying new furniture for the Living room. I had already picked out what I wanted and was waiting to have enough money to pay down on it when I found out I was getting laid off .........so there went the new couch ,chair and end tables ,kitchen table & chairs .
I was tired of the same old look so I went to my shed looked in a tub, found about 8 yards of dark Blue Denim ....... Idea!!!! Do I dare to use it on the couch , I said to myself well why not and just add a crocheted lace cover for the back .So here is the results !

The white pillows match perfect I tried to clean them to no avail ,they were given to me by Robin Franklin last year.So far the kids have stayed off it .:-)

Below.... well this chair is one of 4 that came with the table that was here when we moved in, they were in terrible condition, so I went back to the shed and looked in another tub and found some more blue denim, but lighter and covered the chair seats for now till I can afford new ones.

I had a huge box full of left over batting that a friend left here for me , it is really thick ,so I used some for the seats to replace what is missing from the chair.
Below is the results of that.

I know the chairs should be thrown out but sometimes you have to do what you have to do until something else comes along. I am one to try to solve a problem even if it is a temporary situation.

Lilies growing and blooming in my Crepe Myrtle Tree

The Tree has 5 trunks and is growing in a circle , I had these lilies in a pot for several years it finally bloomed for the first time last year and again a week ago.The Pot is sitting in the middle of the tree.Just last summer we had the Crepe Myrtle trimmed back and hope it will bloom a lot better this year.They usually bloom in June & July

Mom gave me this Wisteria bush 3 or 4 years ago ,this is the first time it has bloomed !! This is a midget compared to her's.Top 2 photos show first signs of bloom.

This 3rd photo was about 2 or 3 days later.

These last 2 photos show it fully developed .

The bush itself is not very big ,last summer it had alot of leaves ,so hopefully next year it will be twice the size it is now .Mom's Bush is huge ! Maybe my sister will have a photo of that one .

I can't remember what these are called, I have them in this pink, red, orange and yellow, so far just the pink and red ones have come back .

Almost all plants in this red pottery display lived through the freeze of December , I will be adding new ones later.

This white bush was from a cutting my sister gave me from Live Oak we call it the snowball bush .

I did not think it would make it but started blooming a couple days ago.

Grass! Not alot of the good stuff yet , we need more rain ,there is alot of green in the yard but mostly weeds !

This is looking across the pasture from my house you can see some bright green trees, finally spring is here !

So time for me to get outside and work in the flower beds, maybe next week, I still have to finish the room.

A few weeks ago when it was not so cold my DIL and grand daughter found this Oak leaf in my yard , it came from the huge Oak across the street by the pasture .I have never seen one just like this before ,it reminds me of spring and Valentines day .I was going to show it on the 14 th but I was ill and was not up to posting ,

I am sorry for not posting anything this week except the S.S. quilt,I have been really busy getting all my sewing ,arts and crafts all organized and my room cleaned up .I have a shed that I am putting most of this stuff in and therefore more room for me in here . I was so tired of not being able to move around and not knowing where everything was . I may take a picture of the shed later when I get it all done, opefully I will be able to find what I need now ! I still have alot more to do,so maybe by next week I will be posting more often.

Secret Sister Quilt

Finally I can show this ! Every year we have a secret sister at church with the Ladies group ,Last year I had Jamee ,the pastors youngest daughter , It was hard trying to keep this a secret .

The fabric is the fabric I won from the Quilting Gallery's weekly contest last summer after I won , I had to order the fabric on-line , I never did that before, there fore I had alot of problems in communications with the shop owner ,we fianly got it straighten out , The colors were a little bit off from what I planned as Jamee was into Paris style and I was trying to stay in the chabby chic .designs .I wanted pinks and chocolete with blues and blacks too . \\

Backing of quilt so you can see the detail of the quilting ,I did the swirls and a few hearts too.

I decided only 1 inch of black was enough then I went to Joanne's and brought the agua ,brown and white for the boarder , I had asked another younger woman for advice and she suggested the peach , I brought both not sure if I would use both or none at all. I liked the boarder and then decided the peach was good for the binding and then I did a fancy stitch to sew it down ,I was in a hurry ,I had been sick all week before the party and then I was un-able to go.

So I sent the gift by her Dad after Robin ,(Jamee's Mom ,because Iwas not feeling good ,cooked us supper) . Her Dad took these 2 pictures of her for me so you can see her reaction , she said she had hoped I was her S.S. this time and sure enough she got her wish .

Showing the back of quilt ,I did not have enough muslim to fit so I added some more of the blocks to the sides .I also use pink thread for the machine quilting.

Now this was a reall surprise !!I felt like the quilt alone was not enough & I did not feel up to going to town because of the flu ,so I made myself put this together for a Mug Rug ! And if you click on the picture you will see where I wrote in with thread "Jamee's Coffee Rug" She was really thrilled with that and I know I should have said Mug Rug ,being sick I was not thinking straight! Looks like I should have squared up better according to the picture but it looked different away from the camera ! ;-)

Double Knit Rug

Made by Mom.

Mom started making these about 6 years ago when her friend Zelda showed her how to make them, as when they were going to Janes for quilt day, she had alot of them throughout the quilt house and Mom was interested in making them .

Mom had ton's of double knit given to her shortly after that and she has made so many I cannot keep count !

They are made by cutting 2 inch squares folded in half like a triangle and lapped over each one to be sewn down the center and then roll after roll all the way around , the base of the rug is heavy duck fabric .

She has made the square, rectangle ,round and oval shape ones .I have a few myself .
My sister Rexa has made alot of them for her house and used as gifts ,they look best by using 3 or 4 different colors but I have seen some with just 2 colors .I also have a ton of the double knit and plan to make a few myself ......someday !! .

More Crocheted Rugs made by Mom

Sorry I have not posted in a few days ,I had been sick for a week ,then I just was not up to posting .I need to take new photos soon .These I had stored in my computer.

When Rexa & I went to Mom's before Christmas she had 6 of these rugs in her closet .

Every year she makes a bunch to give us

She told us to pick two each ,I did not lay them out flat enough when I took the pictures ,sometimes we have to tug and pull on them to get them flat.

Most of the time she makes them with cotton's from selvages & old clothes , sometimes she used old T-shirts ,there have been times when she even used old sheets (Tina's favorite) and I have one made from Flannel that I love ! She has also used lightweight double knit but those stretch too much,so she doesn't make those very often.

We always get at least one or 2 a year and always a different look !

Hearts For Gracie by Mom

I decided to enter this quilt in the weekly Quilting Gallery Contest .This quilt Is made by Mom and her friend Zelda, and was given to Gracie, a great grand daughter for Christmas.

Hearts were made by Zelda ,Mom sewed them on with a blanket stitch by machine then quilted around each to make them puff up and then did the in the ditch hand quilting around each block.

Trenton's Antique Shop

As you can see this says Crystal Ice House with Coca Cola but it is now an Antique Shop in connection with the Suwannee Quit Shop right next door .

As you stroll through the shop you will see many very old furniture and quilts .

Notice the quilts on the walls , I wish I could have gotten a closer look .I did notice the outer space quilt on the back wall looks similar to my Boundless Sky Quilt ,there is also a old crazy quilt to the right.

I love this black with pink it really stands out .

This huge buffet looks so much like my grandmothers ,so does the crocheted lace table cloth .

Very old sewing machine, not sure the name of this one. it does not look like a singer and it is just sitting on top of an old metal frame with a marble top .

I love to ride them myself and have riden a train to Michigan by myself and then agian a couple years ago with Mom and sister Rexa to Pennsylvania.

I have shown the quilt on my blog before, but it was hanging up and you could not see each block close-up , so the last time I went to Mom's I decided to take a photo of each block and was going to show them a few at a time, but then when I discovered the slide show, I decided to show them this way. I have names for some of the blocks to represent members of the family ,of course I do not have enough blocks for everyone ,so we will try to add the ones we can as we go.
When Aunt Kathy was down for a visit ,I think we picked one for her but I forgot which one it was ,I am thinking we wrote it down somewhere at Mom's . When we made the quilt we did not intend to have it completed as we wanted to be able to add a few things to it each year .
We also made a heart shape quilt for Rexa (sister) and another one like this but smaller for Tina (sister.)I will be making more quilts like this, not sure who gets those! LOL

Apology on Blog Confusion !!

Wow!! I can't believe I have had this problem for months now ! My cousin sent me a Facebook message asking if I have been receiving her e-mails, Blog notifications & etc. I told her I have not been receiving any blog notifications since I changed computers last summer ! When I changed computers we also changed providers ,therefore I had to change my e-mail address ,so I never did know when anyone left a comment unless I went to the blog each day and when someone did leave a comment, I would just click on the person's name and re-ply that way . Wrong.... I found out the e-mails are not going through !
So I want to apologize to everyone that left me a comment, that if you did not get a re-ply I am sorry for the confusion ,I guess my settings were wrong ,so it is all fixed now thanks to my cousin Susan from PA.
I would love to receive more comments and hopefully this will help solve the problem.Thanks for Listening .

Whole Cloth- Hand Quilted By Mom

This it a quilt my sister Tina brought a year or so ago and asked Mom to quilt it for her,

Mom decided to start last year . I forgot to get how many hours it took her and I tried to capture the whole cloth effect but I did not show up good, so I took several close up's. I am amazed at Mom's ablitiy to keep hand quilting , she does excellent quilting and has done several quilts for others and was able to get paid for her work .She just turned 83 on new years and is still doing hand quilting !

Quilts hanging up in HeartFelt Quilt Shop

I have these 2 quilts hanging up in the quilt shop in hopes of selling them ,they are wall hangings and would look good on someones wall. The flower one is loaded with all different colors and sizes of beads ,no 2 flowers are alike ,the farm one I drew and painted the barn,tractor,truck,water trough,dirt road and wagon wheel, all of it is applicaded.

Heartfelt Quilt shop is one of my favorites and the same place I purchased my Janome 6500. I love the shop, they have some beautiful fabrics,all kinds of threads, books more finished quilts and etc.There is also classes ,I went to one and loved it but have not been able to attend anymore.I have them listed on my sidebar if you would like to vist their web site..

I brought this book from Suwannee Valley Quilt Shop in Trenton Florida ,on our way back to Auburndale ,Fl. from Live Oak,Fl. my sister Rexa and I decided to stop there because she has never been there .I could not resist this book, it broke me but thats ok it has inspired me to get back into more crazy quilting .The book is "Elegant Stitches by Judith Baker Montano"

All these old hankies, dollies & laces were in a basket that I have had stored in a dresser for 2 or 3 years ,I had forgotten about them until I went through it agian , most of all this came from the quilt show in Davenport when they had the Quilters Dream Closet ,I did not have to pay much for them , I was amazed that anyone could sell them !

See the one hankie in the lower left corner with a green 4 leaf clover ,it says pure irish linen, it is pretty old & stained, I think it just makes it look more anitque.

Here is a couple of pictures from inside the book , can you see why it is inspirational !

Some of the laces you see is lace I have had longer than the hankies, this hankie on the book looks very delicate, I am thinking I will make small wall hangings out of most of these as they may not hold up in a quilt ,even a shadow box with some old jewery and tinkets would be wonderful !

I can't wait to get started on these but I have several other things that have to come first ,so this is another one for the back burner for now.

Cold Weather Rose

Last week we had a couple of really freezing cold mornings,I had to cover most of my plants ,I noticed a rose bud, but forgot to cut it , the next day I saw this !

I could not belive how well it looked .

The same rose 5 days later and it is still looking great!

This is a sunset on another cold day, this one changed really fast.

I had purchased a package of these for the girls to give to them at christmas , I wanted to make them pretty .

So I made some with cloth

And some I did crocheting

A variety of yarns were used

These above 3 are heavy rope like thread,soft ribbon and thin crocheting thread.

Below is very soft yarn that I removed from a neck scarf and dollie I did not use any more.

I am still making them for future gifts.

My Christmas gift from Mom

I knew Mom was working on this for a long time,she hand sewed every piece in each block, last July she asked me how I like it with the brown sashing and the pink ,I told her I liked it . She finished quilting it by hand in the fall and gave it to me for Christmas . She did not add anything in the little squares because she was not sure if I would want button 's or french knots, she quilted a small flower in each. At first I liked the idea of french knots, but we put buttons on it and liked it alot better.

This shows more of it and without the buttons , I still have to sew them on, but I am waiting for more buttons as I need 35 and only have 20 ,the walmart store in my town does not have the same color !

So the next time I go to Live Oak I hope they have more as I would like them to all be the same .

More Quilts And Tea Pictures

There was an area in one of the churches where they displayed alot of Feed Sack quilting ,Old machines and what they made out of Feed Sacks besides quilts .This first one is entirely made out of feed and flour sacks and called Trash can Quilts.

This art quilt was in the same display and all the little tiny specks you see is tiny yoyo's !! Some were on a tree in the art quilt and some were being used to make a vest.

They had several old sewing machines on display also I know there was a singer, not sure yet what the others were.This one is a National .

Another quilt with old sacks .Note the pink is just like the same fabric I have of my grandma's old blue & pink quilt I showed in another post.

A dress made out of a sack and a few sacks left uncut. Notice the machine with the flowers on it and the fancy silver on the main part of the machine ...it is a 1923 Singer #66.I would love to own one of those!

My Grandma Schoonover had an old singer, not sure what happened to it but I remember pumping the pedal to sew with it and it was when I was pretty young and was just learning to sew.

This is a display of a few smaller quilts just before you get to the Feed Sack section . I think they also had a class on how to use the sacks , I missed it, it is strange how I seem to make a quilt every year to represent something they have on display .I also made a feed sack quilt and it was hanging up in Davenports City Hall .I have it showing in 2010 - Nov. archives post.

Machine Quilted and Pencil Coloring Pillow

A Few years ago when I first brought a free motion attachment for an older machine I needed to practice on something, so I used some fabric from a plain old wedding dress with batting , I used one of Mom's sencils to draw on the cloth and machine quilted it, I like it so well I decided to make it a pillow by adding the lace ,then I said well that is too plain so I got out my color pencils and shaded it with the light blue and pale yellow ,then added the lght blue ribbon and bow.

I gave it to Mom for her Birthday .

I made more than one and gave them away.

History Of Kossuthville, Florida

As Historian of my community I always display what history I have already gathered for our Holiday Dinner we put on every year.

I have been historian for several years and we did not have any of this information except a few pictures and one photo of a reunion in 1950 of the 25 year reunion . Kossuthville was formed by a tiny community of Hungarians that decided to take a chance on farming , most of them inmigrated from Pa, NY

A Mr. Joseph Nemeth was concidered a leader and helped to name the little community of Kossthville ,I have quite abit of information but it is too much to add to this, maybe someday I will have a web page on it , in later years when the fire dept was built, the local firemen decided to shorten the name Kossthville to K-Ville so that is what most people call it now. Mr. Nemeth had kept a Journal of the happenings in this area ,but it was all written in hungarian and donated to the Hungarian Club of Plant City, hopefully I will be able to get some information about that. This year marked our 85th Reunion !

This is the tree I put up every year ,before it was just a few red bulbs and tinsel , I added a more colorful touch to it and gave the candy canes to the children.

Dresden Ouilt On Mom's Bed

This is one of the first quilts Mom made when she started quilting ,all hand quilted by her, it stays on her bed all the time .

Pillows were crocheted by her also except the white with blue was made by myself .I will tell about that one another time .

Mom is also a very advid reader, theres always a good book close by.

Left Over Blocks

With Mom being the active quilter she is ,this is what she does with any left over blocks .

Most of the time she sits at the machine and just sews away making as many blocks as she can, stores them in a plastic tub until she is ready to put a quilt together.

Then when she is ready she will go ahead and put several tops together the same week and any left over blocks she will keep until she has enough for a new top this way.

I love her way of doing them .

These are 2 she has ready for the batting and backing ,then she will most like do hand quilting on them, some times she will attemp to machine quilt them or she waits for me to do it for her when I get there.
